7-30 SmackDown Results

Credit: PWInsider.com

We begin this week’s show with a look back at Kane’s comments about his World Title win and how he did it for his brother. Kane tells us that he will not rest until he finds his culprit. We see the footage from the match between Jack Swagger and Rey Mysterio to see who will face Kane at SummerSlam. After the match ended, Kane came to the ring and he attacked Swagger and Rey.

We are live on tape from Corpus Christi, Texas and your announcers are Todd ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas’ Grisham and Matt ‘JBL’ Striker.

Kane is in the ring and he says that for sixty days and sixty nights, he has sat at his brother’s side waiting for him to show a sign and put him in the direction of the culprit who put him in a vegetative state. Yesterday, his brother moved and he opened his eyes. For the first time in two months, he spoke. Kane says that his voice was weak and frail. He could only utter two words, but those words will be forever engrained in his psyche. Those words were the name of his assailant. A tidal wave of anger and pain coursed through his body. It was something he could not believe. The guilty party had been looking him in the eyes and he could not see it. Kane says that the man who attacked his brother was Rey Mysterio.

Kane says that he sat staring at his brother before he drifted back into unconsciousness. The name Rey Mysterio hung in the air like a demon he could not fathom. He wonders why would Rey have done this. Kane says that he knows that Rey couldn’t have done it together. Kane says that the more he realized it, it was true. Rey had the most to gain. Kane talks about the night that Rey lost to the Undertaker to get into the Fatal Four Way Match. He says that Rey made a conscious decision and took the coward’s way out. The next week, like a virus invading its host, he opportunistically won a battle royal to get back into the Fatal Four Way Match. Then Rey won the title when he should have hung his head in shame for what he had done. Rey won only because his brother was not there. Kane says that he stopped Rey by cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase and he brought the title to the dark side. He will beat Rey at SummerSlam but defeating him will not be enough.

This time he will make Rey pay for his sins. He will make Rey experience what Undertaker has endured. Kane says that he will open a casket and stuff Rey inside. He will damn Rey to eternal hell where the fires will consume him over and over. He will condemn Rey to eternal pain. Kane says that Rey will be praying to him for mercy. Kane says that he will shut the lid and Rey Mysterio as we know him will cease to exist. As Rey gasps for air and the light dims, his fate will be sealed and so too will his soul. As the life oozes out of Rey’s pores, the last thought that will go through your mind will be to repent over what you did to his brother. Then the only thing left will be the darkness. Kane closes the casket and we go to commercial.

We are back and Matt and Todd talk about Kane’s revelation that it was Rey who attacked the Undertaker. Matt wonders what Rey is thinking after what Kane said earlier.

We see footage from last week’s tag match when Matt Hardy hit Christian. Matt Striker wonders if it was intentional or an accident before Drew got the victory.

Sheamus ready to rumble in Daytona

One look at the non-tanned Sheamus, you would assume he has never been near a beach — especially The World’s Most Famous Beach.

That will change Saturday, as the World Wrestling Entertainment red-headed champion will headline a card at the Ocean Center.

Sheamus, who will be joined by more familiar names like John Cena, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho, is a huge part of WWE’s shift to focus on its young superstars.

The News-Journal talked by phone with current WWE champion Sheamus, who is from Dublin, Ireland.

Are you going to visit the beach?

We stay as far away from each other as possible. I like Daytona for the bikes, the Harleys.

Your WWE debut was June 30, 2009, and here you are already a two-time WWE champion. What does that mean to you, the first Irish-born champion?

It means everything to me. I gave up a lot and sacrificed a lot to come to the U.S. to follow my dream. I was pretty serious as to what I wanted to do. You have to make your own opportunities. I was a little bit surprised at my quick success, but I knew if I got the opportunity I would take it. It’s a great honor. It’s opened up a lot of peoples’ eyes to the product and it has created a big following back home. It’s a dream come true.

We know you are 6-foot-6 and 272 pounds. But how big are you in Ireland?

It’s incredible — there is so much going on when we go overseas. WWE is huge — we go there twice per year.

What does the term “The Celtic Warrior” mean to you?

The stereotypes of an Irishman are a leprechaun and things like that. It’s something I want to get away from. I want to drive fear into my opponents, especially with what I’ve achieved the last year. I want something positive, not something to be laughed at.

Talk a little bit about your wrestling background.

I started wrestling in Ireland in the United Kingdom in 2005. I started training to become a sports entertainer, gaining experience overseas. I moved to Florida Championship Wrestling in 2007. It was a long haul.

As champion, you have a major role in WWE’s shift to focus on the young guys — guys like The Miz and Jack Swagger, and Nexus from the Tuesday NXT rookie television show. What does that mean to you, and how will the young guys change WWE’s future?

A lot of guys have been there awhile in FCW, developing the superstars. You’ve got Wade Barrett, Yoshi Tatsu, Ted DiBiase Jr. who have gone from FCW to WWE. In fact, about 70 to 80 percent of the roster is pretty much from FCW. They give you the road — it’s up to you to follow it.

Who is the bigger threat right now for your title — Orton (your Summerslam opponent), The Miz (who has a guaranteed title shot) or Nexus (who you have a “truce” with)?

Once you become WWE champion, there’s a target on your back. Everyone wants the title. Orton is an extreme threat to me. He’s been champion multiple times. I’m better than anyone. I’m the best in the world. There’s a payback for The Miz coming. Maybe I’ll teach him a lesson in Daytona and put his (guaranteed title shot) suitcase away for good.

Will we ever see a stipulation match where you have to get a tan if you lose or change your red hair color?

I’m very happy with the Irish tan.

What does the future hold for Sheamus?

The future is bright. It’s laced with gold. I want to make sure I’m the longest reigning WWE champion. With the truce with Nexus and Cena occupied, there’s no one to take me out. I’m here for the long term.

7 - 27 NXT Results

We are live from Corpus Christi, Texas and your announcers are Josh ‘I get to talk to real people, not a computer’ Mathews and Michael ‘Who is the NXT general manager’ Cole.

The pros are on the stage and it is time to go to Matt Striker, who is in the ring. The rookies come to the ring. Matt mentions that one of the seven men in the ring will be gone at the end of the night. Matt reminds everyone that the poll is a combination of the WWE Universe and the NXT Pros.

Matt says that most of them will be able to prove themselves physically, but now it is time to prove themselves verbally. They will have a minute to talk about anything other than why they shouldn’t be eliminated.

Lucky Cannon goes first and his topic is friends. He says that he didn’t have a lot of friends growing up. When he did well in school and sports, nobody seemed to care. When he was hurt and down, nobody really cared about him. Now that he is this close to making it into the WWE, people seem to care. He says that he lost a childhood friend. Thanks to nobody, he has become a somebody.

Eli Cottonwood is next and his topic is eyes. He says that there is something that I can do that nobody else in the ring can do. There is something I can do that nobody in the arena can do. There is something that I can do that nobody else in the WWE Universe can do. He can look in the eyes of the giant. He can also look in the eyes of the Dead Man . . . The Undertaker.

Husky Harris is next and his topic is husky. He says that he sees a bunch of big bodies, abs, and tans. They look like Tarzan and they fight like Jane. Husky says that if you want to know about him, you can ask MVP. He says that he is like a tank with a Ferrari engine.

Kaval’s topic is dreams. He asks if anyone had a dream that it hurt. He says that he had a dream in Brooklyn to fight on the greatest stage. There were people who told him that he didn’t have what it took. He says that he fought for a decade as Low Ki and he says that it wasn’t about the size of the fighter, but the size of the fight.

Michael McGillicutty is not going to give his topic. Michael mentions that he won the challenge last week so he is the man to beat. He talks about the video package where the pros commented on his progress. He says that it was good except for one man. Michael asks Miz if he called him mediocre. Miz says that he did and he meant it. Michael wants to show Miz that he is mediocre and that Michael is the one who is awesome.

Miz tells McGillicutty to talk to him when he gets a Raw or Smackdown contract.

Alex Riley’s subject is Starbucks. Alex says that if it was up to the pros or anyone with an education, he would have won by a country mile. Since it is being decided by the democracy of dorks, he is competing with a man trying out for the voice of God or as a poor man’s Eddie Murphy. Alex says that he is the sun of the NXT galaxy. He says that everything revolves around him and there are no stars around, just a bunch of Star . . . bucks.

Percy Watson’s topic is having a good time. Percy says that people tell him that he always talks about having a good time. Percy says that life is hard and you have to work hard to get where you are in life. He says that his motto is work hard, but play harder. He says that life is short so you need to shake and groove.

It is time for a video package on Percy Watson. MVP says that Percy has a lot of showmanship. Henry says that he wants to see what is next from Percy. They talk about the connection he has with the crowd. Miz mentions that Percy has no lenses in his glasses so why is he wearing them. Cody says that under the surface is a solid athlete. Zack doesn’t get him. Miz says that you need to be serious in the ring. Porter says that if he shows the dedication, he will teach Percy. Cody says that Percy has more going for him than glasses and a goofy smile.

Match Number One: Percy Watson with Montel Vontavious Porter versus Zack Ryder

Ryder wants Porter off the apron and Ryder with a knee and forearm followed by a side head lock. Ryder with a shoulder tackle but Watson with a back elbow. Ryder with a double leg take down and punches to Watson. Ryder sends Watson into the turnbuckles and kicks him. Ryder with a running face wash to the head for a near fall. Ryder with a knee drop and he gets a near fall as Porter gives Watson some more advice. Ryder with a reverse chin lock. Watson with elbows and punches but Ryder sends Watson into the turnbuckles and he tries for another facewash but Watson moves. Watson with a drop kick or two. Watson with a flying clothesline and Ryder goes to the apron. Ryder drops Watson on the top rope and then he tries for the Rough Rider but Watson hits the floatover DDT and then he hits the twisting Oh Yeah splash for the three count.

Winner: Percy Watson (OH Yeah!!)

John Morrison gives some advice to Eli and Morrison says that Eli is doing great. He wants Eli to watch a video tape from last week’s obstacle course. We see the problems that Eli had with the course. John starts to laugh and Eli says that he isn’t an acrobat. Morrison says that people are calling him Eli Rottonwood. Morrison says that Eli has an opportunity against Michael McGillicutty. Eli has one word for Michael. Morrison asks if it is intensity and Eli says that it is mustache.

We go to commercial.

7-26 RAW Results

RAW starts off with John Cena’s confrontation with Wade Barrett and Nexus last week. Then we see footage of the systematic destruction of the WWE Superstars. But then we saw the six men who would join John Cena at SummerSlam.

We are live from San Antonio, Texas and your announcers are Michael ‘Where is the basement in the Alamo’ Cole and Jerry ‘Did Tony Parker bring his wife tonight’ Lawler.

John Cena comes to the ring and he is going to talk to the WWE Universe. John says that they are right that everything is bigger in Texas. He says that seven weeks ago, a group called Nexus, without any warning at all came to Raw and destroyed everything in its past. Nobody was safe. If Nexus wanted you hurt, then they would hurt you. That was until last Monday. Finally, the Raw Superstars said that they have had enough. They stood side by side in the ring. It did not matter if they were friends or enemies because they had a common goal. They are going to beat Nexus at SummerSlam and they are going to end Nexus. Nexus is not invincible. He says that with more power, Nexus gets more influence. The more influence they get, they will take over this show. Cena says that if that is the case, it might be the end of Monday Night Raw. Cena says that his team is not the Superfriends. He is not Superman. He says that he is more like Aquaman. He says that Edge and Jericho are like Batman and Robin. He says that Khali is not going to put on Wonder Woman’s attire.

Chris Jericho interrupts and comes to the ring. Cena mentions that Chris Jericho is on the SummerSlam team. Jericho says that he was standing backstage biding his time until Cena would say what he knew Cena would say. John Cena talked about his team. Jericho says that people told him that they were glad to see that Jericho had changed his ways to join Cena's team. Jericho tells Cena and the hypocrites. He did not get involved in this to be part of Cena’s team. He did not do this to bask in the glory of heroes. He did not do this to pander to parasites. He did this because of the issues he has with Nexus, especially Wade Barrett, who he groomed and his teachings helped Barrett to form Nexus. Jericho says that this is his team.

John Cena says that the team can be Jericho’s.

Jericho tells Cena never to patronize him. He wants to be honest with Cena. The team lives or dies on his whims. Cena slaps the mic from Jericho.

Cena tells Jericho it is not about Jericho. It is not about him. It is about this damn business. He says that Nexus has taken over this company. Cena tells Jericho if he doesn’t like him fine, the thing is that Jericho loves the business. He says that they have to co-exist. Jericho knows Wade Barrett better than anyone. He says that Jericho is essential to this team.

Jericho picks up his mic and he tells Cena never to knock the microphone out of his hands again. Jericho then tells Cena that he knows how essential he is to this team. The only chance to beat Nexus is to have the best in the world standing beside you. Jericho says that he knows more than that because he sees the big picture. Nexus isn’t the only threat to this company. The other threat is John Cena. Cena is like Nexus. He interrupts whoever he wants and does whatever he says. However, Cena does it with the support of the drones and people that he dances around for like a puppet on a string. At SummerSlam, as soon as the threat of Nexus is abolished, he is going to take the next logical threat and turn his sights on the next threat in the company. He is going to get rid of Cena. He will either do it with the help of his team, or he will do it by himself.

Cena tells Jericho to take his best shot.

It is time for an e-mail from the General Manager. Cole says that the match at SummerSlam will be an elimination match. As a preview, Nexus will face seven men in an elimination match. Additionally, Cena and Jericho will be in a tag team match. The General Manager says that if they aren’t down for that, he has two words for Cena and Jericho.

Ted says that when he beats Morrison tonight, Cena will see that he deserves to be on the team. Edge says that he might have to force his hand and face the Great Khali himself.

Edge walks away from Ted and Maryse and we see Runjin Singh. Will he tell Khali what he heard?

We go to commercial.

Edge tells Singh to translate that if Khali loses, he is off the team. We go to commercial.

We are back and Did You Know that a lot more people watch Raw than Baseball on Monday Nights.

Wade Barrett says that what we just saw was an act of total domination. The Nexus have always been 100% behind a common purpose. John Cena’s team . . . or Chris Jericho’s team already has cracks. It is because of their individual egos and agendas. Wade says that at SummerSlam those cracks will destroy the foundation of that team.

Skip says that Cena has a team of individuals who do not have a singular focus. No member will sacrifice themselves for the betterment of the group. That is what they have done. Skip says that what you see is the Nexus. They are unbreakable.

Michael Tarver says that SummerSlam will be no different. They will eliminate each member until they are down to one member. Tarver says that he hopes it will be Cena so they can treat him like a piece of meat and sink their teeth into Cena’s flesh.

They leave the ring.

Miz is in the locker room and he is staring at his Money in the Bank briefcase. Sheamus enters and he tells Miz that it has been two weeks that he has tried to cash in the briefcase. Sheamus tells Miz it will never happen. There is no way that Miz can beat him. Sheamus tells Miz to name the time and place and he will leave Miz black and blue.

Miz suggests that they do it tonight after they beat Cena and Jericho. He will put Sheamus back in the ring so Cena can hit the Attitude Adjustment and Jericho will put Sheamus in the Walls of Jericho. Then Sheamus will be screaming and saying to make the pain stop because you can’t take it any more . . . fella. Then he cashes it in and hits the Skull Crushing Finale to become the WWE Champion.
